Teacher SURPLUS Information

For union member teachers who have been declared SURPLUS, we recommend those teachers who want to have some control over their assignment for next school year, that they contact schools/principals where they would like to teach and request an interview should a position become available at that school. Once they have a principal who says they would like to hire them, the union member can contact UTD and we can assist in having them placed in the open PAC.

There is no need to fill out any paperwork (although a transfer form on file is a good idea – it gives you the right to interview). Until you have been given a new assignment, you will report to your current school when the school year begins even though you do not have an assignment. The district has a responsibility to place all surplus teachers.

Any surplus teacher who is a union member can contact their staff Organizer, who will walk them through the process, at 305-854-0220.

There are currently no open positions being listed by the district until all surplus teachers have been placed.

For non-teaching positions, please contact your Organizer as the contractual provisions are different.
