ZONE INITIATIVE ENDS,
NEW CONCEPT DISCUSSED FOR 08-09

United Teachers of Dade Bargaining Team met in their first collective bargaining session with MDCPS representatives Monday (February 4) to discuss next school year’s low performing schools.

The District conceptually discussed with the UTD team some ideas they had to address approximately ten to twelve continuously low-performing schools.  Although the conversation was in very general terms, the District will present their proposals on Monday, February 11, at 1:00 p.m.  There was no conversation in relation to compensation.

The selection of schools will be based on their lack of capacity to build and sustain their performance goals; leadership stability; instructional focus; large teacher turnover; and additional professional development opportunities.

The majority of schools that will be identified in this new district initiative will be secondary schools.
