FRS bills put on hold by Legislators

Any improvements to the Florida Retirement System may have to wait until the 2008 Legislative Session.  With the 2007 Legislative Session coming to a close on May 4th, none of the bills have been brought to the floor for a vote in either house.  The Florida legislators are presently battling over the property tax reforms, and have indicated there is no money available for FRS improvements.  The new dollars that are available in the state budget are nonrecurring (ie. a bonus is a nonrecurring expense).  In order to make improvements in the FRS multiplier or health care subsidy, we need recurring dollars.

2007 Proposed FRS bills:

FRS/Regular Class Benefits (3%)

SB 2210—Villalobos  HB 657—Gelber

FRS/Regular Class Benefits (1.8%)

SB 568—Jones   HB 927—Pickens

Health Care Subsidy

SB 8—Lawson   HB 87—Allen
