UTD Sick Leave Bank Process

Membership:

The UTD Sick Leave Bank was first negotiated and made part of the contract in 1975.  To join the bank you must have been employed full-time for at least one year and you must have a minimum of five (5) sick leave days to donate one (1) day.  You must sign a UTD Sick Leave Bank enrollment card to join.  No additional day shall be taken from you unless the bank nears depletion.  Depletion as defined by law for the UTD Sick Leave Bank is 250 days or less remaining on balance.

Claims and Process:

Any sick leave bank member shall be eligible to submit a claim whenever the following conditions have been met:

1.      Exhaustion of all personal sick leave days.

2.      Confinement for 10 working days or more without pay.

All applications are subject to final approval by the UTD Sick Leave Bank Committee.  The maximum number of Sick Leave Bank days that may be approved for any participating member is thirty (30) days per twelve (12) month period.  All claims should be made within one year of the conclusion of the confinement period and only days not covered by leave will be considered for eligibility.

Please contact UTD at 305-854-0220 to receive a claim form.  The UTD Sick Leave Bank has a committee that meets to determine how many days will be awarded to each claim.  The claimant is notified by a letter to let them know how many days they will receive.  Then the paperwork is forwarded to the MDCPS Payroll Department and they will produce a check to the member.  You will receive your check in the mail by MDCPS.

Refer to Appendix G - Sick Leave Bank of the UTD/Miami-Dade County Public Schools Contract for more information.
