OPPORTUNITY  FOR NATIONAL BOARD CERTIFIED TEACHERS

Project RISE – Rewards and Incentives for School Educators is a five year grant funded by the Department of Education through the Teacher Incentive Fund. Project RISE is designed to provide additional compensation for participating National Board Certified Teachers who apply and are selected to work in  the designated high-needs schools, serve as teacher leaders, promote quality teaching and learning, and to contribute to the improvement of the school climate, so as to improve student achievement.

The first year of Project RISE is coming to a close.  It has been an exciting year with our first cohort of twelve schools and twenty National Board Certified Teachers on board for the 2007-08 school year.  The project is going into its second year, expanding to include an additional twelve high-need schools, with opportunities for more National Board Certified Teachers to participate in this exciting challenge and to earn additional compensation.

TEACHER INCENTIVES

Project RISE National Board Certified Teachers have the opportunity to earn additional compensation, including stipends for each year the teacher is in the Project RISE position at a participating high-needs school and  stipends for delivering professional development to the faculty.

In addition, Project RISE National Board Certified Teachers will have a reduced teaching/student/class load, and an additional release period, equal to and in addition to contractual planning time, to  be used for Project RISE activities.

APPLICATION AND INFORMATION

At this time, we are in the process of accepting new applications for the second cohort, which will begin in the 2008-009 school year, from schools and teachers  that wish to join us in this initiative to change school culture, promote quality teaching and learning, and improve student achievement.

Additional information is provided in the  teacher application packet and  “Frequently Asked Questions” document.
