The District has
directed schools that beginning with 2009-2010 school year, schools
shall not allow students in grades 3 - 12 to write in or
"consume" District adopted workbooks. Additionally, the District
advised schools that duplication of workbooks is prohibited by copyright
law. UTD sought legal advise from our state affiliate, Florida
Education Association (FEA), and they confirmed that the District has
the right to request that students not write in consumable workbooks.
The FEA indicated that students should write their answers on a separate
paper and not in the consumable workbook. Additionally, teachers
should not ask their students to re-write the question/problem
before providing the answer in order to comply with copyright laws.
