2008 Teacher of the Year

Joan Sharperson
drives off in her new set of wheels

In ceremony full of pomp and circumstance, Miami-Dade’s 2008 Teacher of the Year Joan Sharperson received the keys to her brand new 2007 Toyota Corolla at her school, where colleagues, administrators, students and the American Senior High marching band will joined her to celebrate the special occasion.

Ms. Sharperson, a longtime UTD member, took her first test drive around Joella C. Good Elementary where she teaches math and science to fourth graders.  An 18-year veteran, Sharperson was chosen from nearly 20,000 teachers in Miami-Dade, to become one of six finalists and then named the district’s 2008 Teacher of the Year.

A very thankful Ms. Sharperson was thrilled to have won the new set of wheels.  Now, she will no longer have to share a ride with her husband, who usually drives the only car the family owns.

Ms. Sharperson will go on to represent Miami-Dade at the State level.
