Funding Opportunities
If you are searching for funding sources among
your collaborative partners, AFT Educational Issues Department is
providing some websites that offer information on grant opportunities.
Local school districts, universities, state departments of education, as
well as community groups that support your training, could benefit from
grant monies which require professional development components. You will
be receiving updates on funding sources regularly.

Funding”
This site lists virtually all programs and
competitions under which the Department of Education has invited or
expects to invite applications for new awards for FY 2004 and provides
actual or estimated deadline dates for the transmittal of applications
under these programs. The lists are in the form of charts -- organized
according to the Department's principal program offices -- and include
programs and competitions previously announced, as well as those they plan
to announce at a later date. The Department provides regular updates to
this site. http://www.ed.gov/fund/grant/find/edlite-forecast.html
Grantmaking at the Department of
Education
To aid parties interested in discretionary
monies, the Department released an updated "Grantmaking at ED:
Answers to Your Questions About the Discretionary Grant Process" (http://www.ed.gov/fund/grant/about/grantmaking/),
which provides a non-technical summary of the types of grants offered by
the agency and how grants are competed and awarded. Indeed, the booklet
goes through application, review, award, administration, grant closeout,
and audit
AFT’s publication,”How

This publication provides information on how
to obtain grants your local can use to help implement or enhance school
improvement or professional development programs. The Learning Lab -
Virtual Classroom section of this program offers tutorials on
Establishing a Non Profit Organization, which several of our locals
have successfully done in order to receive foundation funding for their
