UTD Rainbow Caucus

Meeting Minutes

Mission Statement

The UTD RAINBOW CAUCUS is a group of individuals committed to empowering themselves and their colleagues through promoting, exploring, informing, and helping define: issues affecting the health, safety, and well-being of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender employees, students and parents of the Miami-Dade Public school system. 1) gay and lesbian issues; 2) gay and lesbian youth issues; and 3) health issues.

Purpose

The purpose of the UTD Rainbow Caucus is threefold:

To bring together the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and allied members of the United Teachers of Dade for the purpose of establishing a cohesive communicative caucus; one which will take definitive positions on the issues within and outside of the United Teachers of Dade which affect gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people and to make our position known to the United Teachers of Dade by those means necessary and available to us by going to the elected leadership of the UTD Executive Board.

2. To advance the UTD union philosophy in our larger community.

3. To achieve solidarity through diversity within the labor movement and total integration in a society free of discrimination and harassment with regard to real or perceived sexual orientation, gender, gender identity or expression, race, ethnicity, religion, creed, age, special needs, physical or mental disabilities, appearance, economic status, marital status, or political affiliation.
